IV Removal

I came from duty and was still tired. The very thing that made my day was the praise I got from a patient, this patient whom I thought was allthroughout irritable because she was not visited by her doctor for so long that she still don't know her diagnosis (nurses are not allowed to give the patient his diagnosis if the doctor wasn't able to tell the patient about it first), but after awhile she was able to call her doctor through phone and the good news is that the doctor can visit her at that day.

The doctor made rounds and ordered MGH(may go home) to this patient since she is well already and so, the patient's IV must be removed since she can go home. Since I am a fourth year student nurse, we are allowed to remove IVs already, so i was the one who did the job... I have done this for few times but still you can't remove the fear because this is an IV(intravenous-|connected to a vein|), I'm afraid that i would inflict pain to my patient.


While I was removing first the tape, I really tried to talk to her about things so that I can get her attention, I was able to remove the needle and she was still talking, I don't know if i induce pain after I remove the needle itself so I asked her if there was pain, and she said that she didn't even notice that the needle was already removed, and praised me for having good and light hands. i'm so happy about this, that it made me smile the whole shift...
